Sandra Harewood

Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Couples Counsellor & Coach

I have worked for the last 13 years as an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor and relationship coach working with women and couples in crisis and stuck at a crossroads in their marriage.

My Passion for Relationships

Relationships are of paramount importance to me, and I understand their significance in your life. Here’s why they hold a special place in my heart.

I am the child of parents from the Windrush Generation, a generation from the Caribbean that experienced the profound emotions of loss, abandonment, and separation. These feelings stemmed from leaving behind loved ones in pursuit of a better life, all while grappling with the stress and trauma of surviving in an unfamiliar and, at many times, unwelcoming environment.

When our emotional cup is overflowing with challenging experiences, it significantly affects the quality of our relationships. There’s little room for self-expression and joy.

Complexity of Relationships

And yet, growing up, I witnessed the resilience of many relationships that lasted a lifetime, with couples establishing stable families. I also observed the fragility that can exist within relationships, and I have personally experienced that vulnerability.

Relationships are inherently complex because human beings are complex, and our life experiences are equally intricate. It’s this very complexity that makes each of us unique, far from being cookie-cutter replicas. Our family histories and transgenerational and intergenerational narratives all join to shape who we are.

This uniqueness is what sets you and your partner apart from one another. Intimacy, or “Into Me See,” involves honouring your own story, bearing witness to your partner’s story, and recognising how these narratives intertwine to form the relationship you share.

The Power of Curiosity and Intimacy

While delving extensively into our childhoods is not always necessary, maintaining curiosity about who we are and how we relate is the cornerstone of building intimacy. I offer you the tools, with counselling or coaching, to reignite that conversation and restore intimacy in your relationship.

My Approach

As well as being deeply knowledgeable and passionate about my work with relationships, my skill is balancing honesty and directness with care and compassion.

I feel privileged to do this work and to witness transformation and change. Relationships are precious gifts that provide both the opportunity and the potential for growth. I know healing does exist for couples and individuals emerging from relational crises.

My work is compassionate while providing enough challenge to allow you to self-reflect on a deeper level so that you develop, grow, and shape your life in a way that feels right. At the centre of my work is the heart.
